Dear brothers and sisters! As you know that being Muslims we have been imposed some important duties and liabilities by our Creator Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’la. As He says that “ “ According to this verse a duty to lead the people of this world to the right path has been assigned to us. What should be the way to fulfill this duty? Should we compel the people of this world whether Muslims or Non-Muslims to choose right path?

To seek answer of this question we have to get guidance from the Holy Quran, which says “ “ So these are the words of our beloved Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’la. In this verse He has chosen for us a way to preach and to convey His message to the human beings.

What is Jihad?
Unfortunately, the word Jihaad has been misused by the Muslims and as well as the non-Muslims . The real meaning of Jihad is “hard working” and “Struggle”. No doubt, it is also used for fighting against the non-Muslims for the cause of Islam. But this is not the only meaning of Jihaad. Jihaad is a very meaning ful word and it includes the following actions too; To educate illiterate people. To overcome poverty and to help poor people. To save humanlife whether Muslim or non-Muslim. To reform the society by working for the promotion of righteousness. For the purpose of fighting against the non-Muslims for the cause of Islam there is a specific term in Islam “Qitaal”. This is a word which is used only for fighting against the non-Muslims. But it does not mean to kill a non-Muslim. There must be reason of Qitaal which is called illatul Qitaal (reason of Qitaal). From the day, when the Prophet Muhammad (Allah’s blessings and salutations on Him) conquered the city of Makkah, the illatul Qitaal (reason of Qitaal ) were changed. and now a days the illatul Qitaal (reason of Qitaal) is to defend and protect the Muslims and the Muslim World. Now the policy of Islam regarding Qitaal or fight against the non-Muslims is defensive not offensive.

Great Jihaad OR Jihaad-E-Akbar
The great Jihaad or jihaad-e-Akbar is to reform the society and to work for the prosperity of the Muslim Ummah in particular and the human beings in general. To help the illiterate of the society, to help the poor of the society, to promote great moral values of Islam, to work for peace, to choose right path, to avoid sins and anti Islamic activities are also included in the sphere of Jihad-e-Akbar as the Holy Prophet (Allah’s blessings and salutations on Him) announced at the day of Fateh-e-Makkah(when He conquered Makkah) “now we have returned from Jihaad-e-Asghar to Jihaad-e-Akbar”. He attributed fighting with the non-Muslims with jihaad-e-Asghar or small jihaad. But there is a question that, “Is there any restriction on the ordinary Muslims to begin Jihad on their own”? The answer is “Yes”. Ordinary Muslim cannot announce to begin Jihad.. That is only the khalifa or Ameer-ul-mo’mineen or the president or the prime minister of the Muslim country who has the authority to announce Jihad with the suggestion of the Ulema. Except these no one can announce Jihad. And without his announcement the ordinary Muslims are not allowed to kill or to fight the non-Muslims for the cause of Islam. So we the Muslims have to understand the meaning of Jihad and to let the leader of the Muslims who govern the Muslim country to decide whether to begin Jihad or not. We must condemn the terrorist attacks in which the old people, children and women are killed. Islam never allows such kind of evil actions, that is why we are not allowed to begin war and attack any non-Muslim country unless they attack us at first and wage war against us. · we must obtain knowledge: For the purpose of leading the people to the right path we have to obtain knowledge. We have to study and understand the Holy Quran and Sunnah of the Holy Prophet (S. A. W.) And we have to get the knowledge of those uloom which are necessary to understand the Holy Quran and the Sunnah. We have to get scientific education and to learn languages espacially Arabic and English so that we can easily understand the Holy Quran and the Sunnah and explain it to the other people who cannot understand Arabic or our language. Remember our victory in the knowledge of religion and science, so we should avoid violence and killing people.
